groups

Volunteering as a group is a great way of doing some good with friends, work colleagues, or as a team from school or university. Groups often combine a specific project with sightseeing trips in the area, or as part of a longer journey through the region. The Mirror Foundation welcomes applications for specific projects, picked from a range of options.

Groups fundraise the money for the project costs - materials, specialised labour, and preliminary research costs - and the team members pay a supplementary fee for accommodation, food, transport and other administrative costs.

Groups generally work on a set project, which is chosen based on the amount of funding the group believes it can raise. For instance, if a team estimates it can raise 70,000B to pay for project costs (not including the volunteers individual fees),then it can choose a project type from the lists up to and including 70,000B.

The more funds that are raised, means more can be achieved by the group. An example: for a budget of 20,000B, a team can teach English for five days, whereas the same team can build a classroom for the students for 100,000B which will last for many years to come.

  • Length of stay: Varies depending on programme
  • Fee: Project fees from 30,000B; team member fees vary depending on length of stay
  • Requirements: Full health insurance; full payment of project fees, at least 4 weeks in advance; minimum 10 team members

dam5To gain a sense of what to expect during a project with us, we have laid out an itinerary to show an example of a typical 4-day group project programme.

This example gives an outline of the timeframe, not any specific work involved. There is a high degree of flexibility built in to the programme, at the admin stage, for groups who wish to adapt an existing sample programme, or build a new itinerary together with our experienced staff.

This sample itinerary shows the schedule for building, or renovating, the house of an elderly villager - our project pays for the equipment and materials, and the work that the group does encourages the villagers to help each other.

Requirements

  • Deposit: Project fees paid in full, 4 weeks before start date
  • Team: Minimum 5 members

teaching2Help educate hilltribe children

A 5-day teaching and sightseeing experience for only 12,000B per person

The Group Teaching programme spans five days (throughout the year*).This is a valuable opportunity to give children a helping hand towards a better life, and learn about the hilltribes of northern Thailand at the same time. Volunteers depart from Mirror with a new insight, and often a new outlook, on life. It not only puts life into perspective, it reignites values that can be forgotten in the hustle and bustle of daily existence back home.

planting3Help the fight against deforestation!

A 5-day homestay and sightseeing experience for only 12,000B per person

The reforestation programme runs for five days. It is a wonderful chance to meet local villagers in a way not normally experienced by tourists, and do something worthwhile for others. Deforestation is a well-established problem in Thailand, and South-East Asia generally. The destruction of the natural environment plays a significant part in the daily life of many here.

By planting trees to replace those lost, volunteers have the opportunity to help slow, halt, and reverse the process. Mix this together with a homestay, elephant ride, and sightseeing trip, and you have an amazing trip ready and waiting!
